Welcome to my classroom site!!
My name is Kathy Clark. I am a seventh and eighth grade Social Studies teacher at the Wang Middle School in Lowell, MA. In seventh grade, students study World Geography and Ancient Civilizations. This a continuation from the sixth grade. Eighth graders are learning about Civics and the roles and responsibilities of citizens.
The 2021-2022 school year will be my fourteenth year of teaching Social Studies at the Wang. Prior to that I taught fourth grade at the Varnum Elementary School for 10 years. I also have 5 years of experience as a Special Education teacher. My passion for teaching Social Studies blossomed when I was teaching fourth grade. I began by taking a class to learn more about the new fourth grade social studies curriculum. That was it, I was hooked. I continued to take various classes over the years in teaching history, literacy in the content areas and Social Studies. Eventually I was able to become a certified social studies teacher. In 2008, the Varnum Elementary School closed and I was reassigned to the Wang School, The change was both scary and exciting. It had been ten years since I was a middle school teacher, but I was ready to try it again, especially since the job was for something I was passionate about- teaching Social Studies.
In addition to teaching, I am the mother of 20 something boys. My oldest has a degree in electronic journalism and works as a producer for the local news at Wink Studio in Florida. My youngest is in the US Navy. In my spare time I enjoy reading, writing, photography and crossword puzzles. Recently I have been channeling my inner Martha Stewart. I have been learning to sew, knit and crochet- though I have a long way to go before I have my own craft show!
